NMD:NATIONAL METALLURGISTS DAY

NATIONAL METALLURGISTS DAY 
14 NOVEMBER 2017

A day for celebration for Indian Metallurgists and Materials Scientists.

It is jointly celebrated by the Indian Institute of Metals, Kolkata, Ministry of Steels and the local chapter which takes up this normally three days' ( 12-14 Nov )  Herculean Task every year.
NMD-ATM is an annual mega event where metallurgists and materials engineers from the industry and academia participate and share their experiences and learning on various aspects of metallurgical and materials engineering.
The birth day of the greatest ever seen Metallurgist of India- Pt Jawaharlal Nehru who laid the path for Industrial progress in India with his vision of Temples of Progress is selected as the NMD ( since 1962).
The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Mumbai, Pune and Goa chapters host the 55th National Metallurgists' Day (NMD) and the 71st Annual Technical Meeting (ATM) at the BITS Pilani- KK Birla, Goa campus from 11th to 14th November, 2017.  
Theme of this year“Lightweighting for Defence, Aerospace and Transportation

Dr PK Mandal,AP and Sri Arun J,  the Final year Metallurgy student (2014-'18)  participated in this mega event by  oral and poster presentations.





ISRO Project

                    MICROSTRUCTURAL  ANALYSIS OF  MDN-59

  Budding metallurgists of AJCE trying to delineate the microstructures of stainless steel specimens which have undergone dynamic recrystallisation. The work is in support of LPSC, ISRO R&D activity.

SPACE EXPO

SPACE EXPO @ AMAL JYOTHI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, KANJIRAPPALLY Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Amal Jyothi College of Engineering (AJCE) jointly organize SPACE EXPO at the college campus on 19th & 20th October 2017. Eminent scientists from ISRO, Thiruvananthapuram will share their challenges and experience in developing cryogenic engine indigenously. The two day exhibition showcases various satellites, cryogenic engines, PSLV & GSLV models, sensors etc. This two day exhibition will focus on the awareness of new advancement in space science and technology and the need for enhancing the new engineering skills. The SPACE EXPO will also give insights on the future challenges in space research, which will help students and science enthusiastic public to gain great awareness about ISRO and its activities. The program will be inaugurated by Dr. S Somanath, Director, Liquid Propulsion System Centre (LPSC), ISRO. His Excellency Mar Mathew Arackal (Patron of AJCE) will preside over the function.

SYMPOSIUM

MATERIALS CHARACTERISATION AND QUALITY CONTROL.

 DEPARTMENT OF METALLURGY AMAL JYOTHI  COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, KANJIRAPPALLY conducted a symposium on MATERIALS CHARACTERISATION AND QUALITY CONTROL , jointly with INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS ( INDIA ) , Kolkata, KERALA STATE COUNCIL FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT , Trivandrum  and INDIAN SOCIETY FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION, local chapter  at  college premises on 12th and 13th of October 2017.

Sri PV Thomas of the department of Metallurgy was the Programme chairman and convener and Prof. Savyasachi the co convener.

A total of 151  delegates  registered for the symposium, students by paying Rs 500/-  others Rs 1000/- per person. The registered delegates comprised of 66 students of Metallurgy Engineering  , AJCE,  80 students/ staff  from Mechanical engineering department of AJCE and nearby colleges. 5 delegates from  Tamil Nadu too registered for the symposium.
